Hup and Judy Streich’s dream of a vast orchard that produces some of the world’s best cherries and pears started more than 20 years ago when the Oregon couple bought an 80-acre alfalfa field nestled in the Upper Hood River Valley. With its crisp, clean air and temperate climate, the area around Mt. Hood, Oregon, is an ideal place to grow delicious fruit.
It took the Streichs a lot of hard work to get to where they are today. Hup and Judy planted the first cherry tree on their property in 1993 but both worked outside jobs while nurturing and expanding their orchards.
As their children, Hup Jr. and Hauna, grew they helped with the chores around the orchards. As a family, the Streichs spent evenings and weekends developing the land and strengthening the fledgling trees to produce the highest quality of fruit.
Today, after many long days and nights building a top-notch orchard, the entire 80 acres are planted and producing sweet ripened cherries and pears. Hup Jr. and Hauna continue to help their parents, who are now retired from their outside jobs and able to devote their time to managing Streich’s Orchards. Hauna, now married to Jeff Rogers, is in charge of marketing for the orchard and cares for baby Bella, the newest addition to the family.
Because Streich’s Orchards is truly a family business, the Streichs can be devoted to growing fruit that meets their stringent quality standards. The whole family takes pride in what they do to produce beautiful and great-tasting fruit for their customers.
