Freezing Cherries

Frozen Cherries grown by Streich's Orchard in Hood River, OregonCherries will keep their flavor and nutrients well when frozen.

Rinse cherries in cold water and drain thoroughly. Position whole cherries in a single layer on a cookie sheet and freeze until they are firm. This way, the cherries won’t stick together as they freeze. Once the cherries are frozen, pack them into freezer containers or bags that are labeled with the date.

When you want to eat the cherries, take the amount you want out of the container or bag and thaw partially. Cherries taste best and have the best texture when they arer still a little bit frozen. Or thaw, remove the pits and stems, and add to salads, sauces or batters.
